It is our goal to provide informative and historically accurate walking tours. We enjoy the reputation of having the most reliable, knowledgeable, and accredited tours around. The tours relay the little known history of the town of Southport that has been kept alive by generations passing those stories down. These tours are based in fact and keep the oral tradition alive with each tour. Quite simply, it is a profound way to preserve the history and heritage of Southport.
Who We Are
Old South Tour Co. was founded in Feb. of 2005 by a young college student, Katie Stewart. Katie grew up in Southport and always had a thirst for the local lore and history. She graduated with her degree in history from UNCW with an emphasis in southern antebellum history and N.C. history. She minored in oral interpretation of southern literature and sociology. While still in college and dreading the typical summer jobs she put her theatrical background and her studies to use. Old South Tour Co. was born. Less that one month after it's humble begining, WWAY News Channel 3 took her very first tour and ran it on the 6:00 news. Since then, Katie has graduated college, married her local sweetheart and experienced the corporate and political worlds, but one thing stays the same-Old South Tour Co. Katie leads every tour and does so full time. You may be assured that your guide cares deeply about her work, historical preservation, accuracy and your satisfaction.
